The Wall of Apartheid: End the Occupation

Location: Boston: March 26. 2011

Project:

Create a 12 foot high x 21 feet long wall of grey painted cardboard, “The Wall” which extends the width of a gallery or a public space. On one side of the wall is the graffiti on the Wall that snakes through Palestine. On the other side are photos and pictures of people in Palestine. We will use photographs and drawings from the students of Al-Rowadd Theater group in Al Jenin.

Proposed:

A cattle chute that is approximately the same length as the check point crossing from Ramallah to Jerusalem.

Concept:

By placing this 24 foot high wall across the length of the gallery, it will give Americans, Europeans and others a small sense of what it is like to be faced with this Wall of Separation in one’s own community. This wall which snakes through Palestine, arbitrarily placed on Palestinian lands, imprisons both Palestinians and Israelis — like the ghetto walls that imprisoned Jews in Europe./p>
